I PLAY.

Play experiences (and by this, I mean any real-time simulated experience) have been a core part of my career for the past 30 years. I started making playful experiences in theatre spaces. Later I became fascinated with the opportunities and challenges of digital play spaces. Now I use game engine technologies that allow me to play in real-time with my clients/collaborators/fellow artists/audience. From serious games to live performance interactive engines for theatre, my solutions find their natural home in playful spaces that give players the greatest agency I am able to give.

I research. I design. I make. I iterate.

I storytell. I listen. I relfect. I generate.

I play.

I collaborate with other PLAYERS.

Working with a team of creative and skilled people is crucial, challenging, and invigorating. Making playful spaces are exercises in passion, vision, and tenacity. Finding strategies to encourage team buy-in without falling into analysis paralysis can make or break a project’s potential for success. For me, leadership serves the team, finds the path forward, and generates the courage and confidence to keep moving forward.

Making playful spaces and experiences are serious work. I am a champion of the games making community advocating for recognition with all levels of government, supporting local indie teams, participating in gamejams, and more.

We play.

I teach how to successfully make PLAY.

Making play requires a balanced understanding of form, function, and story. In play, form is what you see and hear, function is what you do, and story is why you care and what brings you back. Learning how to create compelling play means having competencies across a broad spectrum of disciplines.

Let’s play.
